Do you shoot 16mm wedding films?
Yes. 16mm motion picture film is my primary work. Most of my bookings are for wedding films shot on real Kodak 16mm film stock. It's not a filter or a preset. The footage is developed and scanned from actual celluloid, which gives it a texture, grain, and warmth that can't be replicated digitally.
Where are you based and where do you travel?
I'm based in Birmingham, Alabama, and I work throughout the Southeast: Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, the Carolinas, and beyond. I'm also available for destination weddings worldwide. Recent work has taken me to Vail, Colorado, Palm Beach, Florida, Newport, Rhode Island, and Dallas, Texas. I have a particular interest in France, Italy, New York, and destinations with a strong sense of place and culture.
Do you shoot wedding photography as well as film?
Yes, I offer both 16mm wedding films and medium format film photography. I book one service per event, so couples choose one or the other rather than combining both on the same day.
What is 16mm film and why do couples choose it?
16mm is a motion picture film format, the same gauge used in classic cinema and documentary filmmaking. At a wedding, it captures movement and light in a way that feels genuinely cinematic: subtle grain, rich color, and a quality that looks timeless rather than dated. Couples who choose it tend to care about the craft and want something that holds up for decades, not just something that looks good on Instagram this year.
What's the difference between 16mm and Super 8?
Super 8 has a more intimate, home-movie quality. The smaller frame size means more visible grain and a softer, looser look. 16mm is sharper and more cinematic, closer to what you'd see in an independent film. Both are shot on real film stock and developed through a lab. I shoot 16mm.
Are you one of the only 16mm wedding filmmakers in Alabama?
Yes. There are a handful of analog film wedding videographers in the Southeast, but dedicated 16mm work in Alabama is rare. Most couples who find me are either specifically looking for film or have seen work from other analog filmmakers and want something similar closer to home.
Do you work with wedding planners and venues across the Southeast?
Yes, and I'm always happy to connect with new planners and venues. If you're a planner with clients who are drawn to a film aesthetic, feel free to reach out through the contact page at edwillcoxon.com.
How do I inquire about booking?
You can reach out through the inquiry form on the contact page at edwillcoxon.com. I'll send over my collections (pricing, package details, and sample work) and we can schedule a call from there if it feels like a good fit.
